A founder member of the RFCG , and in 2010 was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia ( OAM ) one of his country’s highest awards for services to aviculture in Queensland , Russell Kingston donated a signed copy of his new book for fundraising purposes in South Africa .
The book titled THE FINCH … a Breeder’s Companion , which has already been described as the world’s definitive book for finch enthusiasts , was raffled at the annual Gouldian Finch Societies convention in Johannesburg last Saturday .
Whilst the floods in Australia may have delayed the posting of the much coveted raffle prize, delegates at the convention in South Africa bought raffle tickets galore. The final result was that a great contribution was raised to support the RFCG planned Phase 3 field research work to try and find the elusive Shelley’s crimsonwing finch up in Uganda
The RFCG is currently raising funds to conduct further field research work in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest , the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and to now also include work in the Rwenzori National Park.
